The transfer of a school from one society, Trust, or company to another is not permitted by CBSE without its prior approval. For the transfer to take place, the following conditions must be met:
- The school’s continued existence is threatened.
- Running the school through the registered Society and Trust becomes nearly impossible.
- The transfer is necessary to advance the cause of education.
The school transfer process must adhere to CBSE bye-laws, specifically K-12, as outlined above. Additionally, to complete the transfer formalities, the school is required to pay the fees outlined in appendix-I.

Is Shifting of schools from one campus to another possible on CBSE as per the Latest CBSE Bye-Laws?
- When the respective State/UT Government grants permission for the school to shift its address to a new location, the CBSE board can consider the request to move to the exact new address.
- The CBSE Inspection Committee will approve the shifting of the school to a new address after visiting the new site.
- The infrastructural development of the new site must be built in compliance with the CBSE Bye-laws, 2018. Failure to comply with these regulations results in the disaffiliation of the school.

Is Changing the name of the Society possible on CBSE as per the Latest CBSE Bye-Laws?
- Express approval shall be granted by the respective State or UT Government.
- The competent authority shall issue a certificate, detailing the change of the name of the society. It will also detail that the registered social name that has been changed and entered into our records, giving you the registration number.
Can a CBSE school run in two shifts as per the latest CBSE Bye-Laws?
- The respective state and UT governments can grant prior permission for the school to run two shifts, enabling the CBSE Board to consider approval. The CBSE board will assess the school through its constituted inspection team to grant permission to run two shifts if the conditions are favorable.
- To maintain the highest level of professionalism on campus, this school must hire two separate sets of teachers, non-teaching staff, vice-principal, and principal in accordance with the prescribed CBSE norms. This is not allowed, as per the norm, for one teacher to assist another in both shifts.
- To ensure efficient functionality of the school, separate workforces handling admission registers, attendance registers, and other relevant records should be maintained independently.

Meeting the following conditions and submitting the required documents asked by the CBSE is a prerequisite for replacing the school’s name affiliated with the CBSE Board. The conditions are outlined below:
The registered Society/Trust/Company should present a resolution to replace the name of the school. Alternatively, it should receive approval from the Central or State Public Sector Undertaking.
Express approval from the respective Government is mandatory.
An affidavit of support, along with other formalities, should be annexed, declaring that the old name shall not be used anymore.
Renaming the school with a new name is contingent upon submitting valid documents related to land ownership, along with other compulsory documents and clearance from the appropriate Government.
The procedure to change the name shall incur charges according to Appendix-I of the CBSE Bye-Laws, 2018.
How to increase the sections in a CBSE school as per the Latest CBSE Bye-Laws?
Chapter 15.7 of the CBSE Bye-laws, 2018, introduces a provision for schools to increase sections by submitting an application. The school must acknowledge the students following the conditions laid down by the board. However, seeking permission from the board to increase sections is allowed, subject to the following conditions:
The school is responsible for filing an application to increase the section by depositing stipulated fees as per the Appendix-I of the CBSE Bye-laws, 2018.
The CBSE board may conduct an inspection to assess the favorable conditions for increasing the sections.
The school is not permitted to increase the sections on its own or during the pending application. Approval from CBSE is required before the school can increase the section.
Permission to increase class sections is subject to the total number of sections permissible as per Appendix-I in the CBSE affiliation by-laws 2018.
Restoration of the Affiliation at CBSE as per the Latest CBSE Bye-Laws?
- The school shall be charged the requisite fees as per Appendix-I.
- The CBSE Board may conduct an inspection before deciding on the reinstatement of the institution upon the school’s request.
- The fulfillment of the conditions mentioned in the order of disaffiliation or downgrading, along with the requirements of the affiliation or examination by-laws of the board, is a prerequisite for the above request. Any other conditions deemed fit by the board must also be met.
- If the Board finds it appropriate, the school may be reinstated from downgraded status to affiliation with the school.
- It is strictly prohibited to run or start classes in contravention to the directions given by the board in the order of disaffiliation/downgrading. No school has the authority to run or start classes, even during the pendency of the application.
- No fees will be refunded by the Board, even if the Board does not withdraw the status of disaffiliation or downgrading.
What is the latest CBSE Affiliation Bye-Laws for the closure of the school?
- The registered Society/Trust/Company shall pass a resolution with deliberation to close down the school.
- The respective Government shall grant express approval.
- The request to close down the school shall be entertained only concerning the school. Schools seeking permission to close down must be affiliated with CBSE for at least a three-year period.
- Upon granting permission for closure, the school shall not be eligible to apply for affiliation for the next three consecutive sessions, including the session for which closure has been approved.
- The school shall pledge, through the wording of the affidavit, to keep and maintain the existing infrastructure and retain teachers to facilitate, prepare, and send the students to classes IX, X, XI, and XII for the board’s examination.
- Finally, to execute this formality, a reasonable non-refundable fee as per Appendix-I will be charged.
